He is surprised that the sun in this region rises faster than the fine bubbles in his glass. The traveller is not sleepy, but the day insists. So after one last glass of champagne, they will go to bed, against their will, in the blinding morning rays of the Côte d'Azur.
Despite a certain melancholy, the traveller is resolutely positive—as you can clearly see from the choice of colours.
