Portrait of Arina Trunova

About

I write, I paint,
I engrave the same story

I am a multidisciplinary artist and creator. I write novels, I paint and engrave on recycled industrial wood, and I design works intended to dialogue with interiors.

Born in Leningrad, I have lived in Russia, France, and Germany. I speak five languages and hold a PhD in Linguistics from Sorbonne University: words have long been my primary workshop.

What I seek doesn't change from one medium to another: how beings transform without having chosen to, and the beauty of what remains imperfect.

“Imperfections are not erased: they are part of the work.”
The studio: recycled wood panels, engraving tools, and pigments

The Studio

Wood offcuts, construction materials, planks that have already lived: the support arrives with its own history. I paint with acrylics, then I delve into the material by engraving it.

The gesture continues onto the edges of the panel, where a phrase specific to the series is sometimes hidden. A work is never entirely smooth — that's what makes it alive.
