Eisige Morgenröte

Two pink stags cross a shallow water at daybreak, their reflections more alive than they are.

The sky shifts from bluish-grey to apricot, the horizon line is low, almost erased. The two animals, painted in magenta and pale pink, move unhurriedly through water that duplicates them in patches of blue and mauve.

At dawn, nothing yet has a definitive colour. To paint the stags pink is to reject realism in favour of sensation: the softness of a moment when the world is not yet decided.
